2008 NAERIC MGRA Trophy Buckle Awards
|
|
In recognition of the excellence and versatility of NAERIC-bred horses at the local competition level in Manitoba, NAERIC trophy buckles were presented to the high point NAERIC registered horse and rider combinations in the Manitoba Gymkhana Rodeo Association (MGRA) Pee Wee Classes (under 13 years of age) and Junior Division (under 18 years of age) at the annual MGRA Awards Banquet held November 22nd in Brandon, MB. The evening social event included a dinner, year-end award presentations, and prize draws.
The 2008 high-point MGRA Pee Wee Class and Junior Division winners were:
Peewee Western Pleasure: Kelsey Wheeler and Mitos Lookin Alive
Junior Western Pleasure: Shelbey Macpherson and Major Fashion
Junior Western Reining: Geralea De Yaegher and Imps Tuff Dude
Junior Pole Bending: Shane Bergeson and Wakopa Handy Comet
Junior Barrel Racing: Shane Bergeson and Wakopa Handy Comet
The MGRA collects points from each of their sanctioned shows throughout the summer. Points are collected based on a horse/rider combination. When membership fees are paid, competitors identify their horses as NAERIC registered. The MGRA Points Secretary tracks all points earned by NAERIC horses in order to identify the Hi-Point NAERIC horse in each age division. In order to achieve a Hi-Point Award, horses must be able to perform consistently (over 20 shows per summer) across four events: Western Pleasure, Reining, Barrel Racing and Pole Bending. Only riders competing with NAERIC registered horses are eligible for the trophy buckle awards.
About the Manitoba Gymkhana Rodeo Association (MGRA)
The MGRA is an established grassroots horse association that has been functioning for more than 45 years. Established in 1961, a group of people dedicated to improving the standards of Western horsemanship held a meeting to form an association with the main objectives being to publish a standard set of rules and to set up a point system whereby championships could be aarded at the close of each summer. The association was formed and is known as the Manibot Gymkhana Rodeo Association. This association is operated and conducted as a non-profit association.
