The 4th annual sale of the North Country Breeders was held on Sunday, October 25, 2009 in conjunction with the Wheat City Stampede and Horse Expo at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba. The sale included a good offering of weanling Belgian, Percheron, and Clydesdale foals, as well as several mature, broke horses.

Lot 29 & 30: team of Percheron x QH mares consigned by Royston Farm, Richard Witty, Russell, MB and sold for $3500.
Overall, the organizing committee was pleased with the outcome of the sale considering the year and the current market status.
Jim Lane of Lone Oak Percherons, owner of the two high-selling Percheron weanlings and the high-selling mature horse had these comments on the outcome of the sale, "Considering the economy, and horse sales in general this year, we were really pleased with the way the sale went."
Consignor of the high-selling Belgian filly, Curt Paton of MM Ranch felt the same way about the sale. "I was really happy with the sale. It goes to show that even in this tough economy, there is a local demand for quality breeding stock."
Equine ranchers from the region brought out a good sampling of this year`s foal crop to offer to the buying public. Buyers this year came from a distance as well as locally. Having the sale in conjunction with the foal show provides a perfect opportunity to showcase what this area has to offer the draft horse industry, and bring in people from a wide area.
Currently, the North Country Breeders membership consists of 29 equine ranches with approximately half of the membership consigning horses to this year`s sale. The committee heading up the sale includes chair Blaine Peel, of Miniota, MB, as well as Jim Lane, Birtle, MB, Lyle Brown, Lenore, MB, and Richard Reeves, Virden, MB and Jim Pollock of Moosimin, SK acting as secretary/treasurer. Ross Taylor Auctions of Melita, MB provided the auction services.
